The official statement from Rockstar Games revealed that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will not be released until May 26, 2026 instead of the initial expected date in Fall 2025. They stated, “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and *Grand Theft Auto VI* is no exception. We appreciate that you understand we need this more time to bring the level of quality you want and deserve.”.
The delay caused an immediate change in the financial status. The news of the announcement caused the stock prices of Take-Two Interactive to drop by 7%. Although this occurred, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick came out to defend the decision of Rockstar Games and assure that the company is still working to bring a “groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations”.
This postponement is not a new one for Rockstar. Major titles by the company have been delayed in the past to meet the required quality. Grand Theft Auto IV was initially set for release in October 2007 but was delayed to April 2008 while Red Dead Redemption 2 had several delays before its release in October 2018
The delay has made people wonder when GTA 6 PC will be released. The pattern that has been witnessed in the past has been that Rockstar Games releases its games first on consoles before the PC version is released. It is believed by some experts that the PC version of GTA 6 may not be released before 2027 or even 2028.
Despite the setback, the desire to play GTA 6 is still on the high side. The game’s first trailer, which was released in December 2023, brought back the Vice City of Miami and also brought Lucia, the first female protagonist.
