Social media users have already started disputing the casting decisions which the production team made. The selection of Paapa Essiedu to portray Snape has generated opposition because some viewers feel the choice stems from identity-based considerations. The decision to have John Lithgow portray Dumbledore as a U.S. actor in this British character role has generated significant public discussion.

Each book in the series based on J.K. Rowling’s original work will be adapted into separate seasons starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Philosopher’s Stone outside the U.S.).
