GTA 6 Map Size: How Big Is Leonida Compared to GTA 5?

One of the biggest questions surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 is simple: how big is the world? After GTA 5’s massive Los Santos, Rockstar has reportedly outdone themselves with Leonida — and what we know so far is staggering.

What Is Leonida?

Leonida is GTA 6’s fictional version of Florida. Based on the trailer, it includes:

  • A massive reimagining of Vice City (Miami)
  • Sprawling Everglades-style swampland
  • Rural areas, beaches, highways, and multiple distinct cities
  • A living, breathing world that reacts dynamically to players

This isn’t just a city map — it’s a state. That’s a massive step up from GTA 5’s single city + desert formula.

GTA 6 Map vs GTA 5 Map

GTA 5’s map covers roughly 49 square miles of playable space, which was enormous for its time. Leaked information and analyst estimates suggest GTA 6’s Leonida could be 2–3x larger, potentially pushing past 100 square miles of explorable terrain.

Game Estimated Map Size
GTA 5 ~49 sq miles
Red Dead Redemption 2 ~75 sq miles
GTA 6 (estimated) 100+ sq miles

What Makes the Map Special?

It’s not just about size. Rockstar is reportedly building a living economy into the world — meaning stores open and close, NPCs have jobs and routines, and the world changes over time. Some reports suggest the map could expand post-launch with new areas added through updates.

The trailer alone showed an incredible variety of environments: neon-lit streets, swamps, trailer parks, luxury hotels, and ocean coastlines — all seemingly seamless.

Will There Be Multiple Cities?

This is where it gets exciting. Several leaks and the trailer itself hint at more than one major urban area within Leonida, not just Vice City. A second large city to the north has been referenced in multiple credible leaks, though Rockstar hasn’t confirmed this officially.

Bottom Line

GTA 6’s map looks set to dwarf anything Rockstar has built before. If the leaked scale holds up, exploring Leonida could take dozens of hours before you’ve seen everything — and that’s before the story even starts.
